Beginning Training
Class
“I wanted to thank you
for the classes we took. My dog and I really enjoyed them. They were
really good for him, and strengthened the bond we had - which was good
for both of us. I also REALLY appreciated the fact that he wasn't
looked at as useless because he was a mixed breed. You and your
employee's attitudes, as well as your obvious love of what you do,
shows.” - Jennifer of Madison
"I was skeptical
about sending a dog through Puppy Preschool - but I am so glad that we did.
The lessons and skills my dog learned were invaluable!"

Our Dog Training Program offers a
multi-step process for you and your dog to advance in their training
skills. You begin the program by taking a Beginning Training
Class (Puppy School for dogs 20 weeks and under and Doggy School for
dogs over 20 weeks). If you have taken a class with another
training program prior to starting with Teacher's Pet, or have already
taken one of these options, please advance to our
Electives Program. All classes are limited to 6-8 dogs and have 2 trainers.
Each class will show you how to communicate with your dog through
verbal and visual signals - not the leash or any other special
training prop.
Puppy School
(dogs under 5 months old)
Our training program for dogs under 5 months old begins with our
6-week Puppy School Class, where we will take advantage of the
critical first few months in your dog's temperament development.
In the first 20 weeks of your dog's life, they will begin to imprint
and form associations (good or bad) for their entire life. It is
crucial that you expose your dog to a variety of different
socialization concepts (people, noises, situations, places, animals,
etc) during this time to help prevent the development of fear and
aggression. If this is done inadequately or incorrectly, you
could end up with a fearful and aggressive adult dog.
In this class, our experienced staff will set up and supervise
socialization exercises to show you how to do this safely in and out
of class. Of course, as a new puppy owner you also have concerns
about puppy biting, housetraining, nutrition, and even veterinary care
- we are there to help with that in this class too. And on top
of all that, we will get you started on some basic training skills.

Doggy School
(dogs older than 5 months)
If your dog is older than 20 weeks of age, you would
begin with
our
Doggy School Class
- a class designed for
dogs who have never had
a group class before, or who are newly adopted by you. In this class, you will learn how to
use your dog's natural instincts and positive methods to achieve
responses from your dog. Your dog will learn many new skills &
some tricks. These include Sit, Down, Stand, Marker Words, Name
Recognition, Gentle, Settle, and many more. We also discuss dog
ownership issues and have plenty of one on one time for help with your
own personal training issues.

Other Options
(dogs who have completed a basic training class with us or elsewhere)
If you have taken a basic puppy or adult class and want to work more
on the skills, you will LOVE our Electives options. In our
electives you will work specifically on one skill at a time to advance
at your own level. Our trainers modify the class to meet your
specific needs and you can pick the topic and area to work on!!
