Behavior Consult
Director, Certified Pet Dog Trainer, and Certified AKC Canine Good
Citizen Evaluator
"We were so grateful to have Club Bow-Wow
refer Teacher's Pet and Mandy to us. Rusty and Mandy get a long
great and you can tell how much Mandy cares
about what she does. I
would highly recommend Teacher's Pet to anyone. Thanks Mandy for
working with Rusty and caring as much as you do for the dogs that need
you." - Marjie & Dave Gibson of Madison
“The class
was organized and Mandy was great with people and dogs. She was open
to all questions and made us feel very comfortable.

Mandy Wickman is a
Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT) and the Behavior Consult Director for
Teacher's Pet Training Academy, LLC. Mandy has been working for
Teacher's Pet since 2001. Mandy is a graduate from the University of
Wisconsin - Madison with a major in Zoology and emphasis on animal
behavior. During college she worked in a behavioral research lab with
endangered tamarins and marmosets. This experience led her to further
explore her interest in exotic animals and her passion for marine
mammals. In the summer of 2001, Mandy helped perform research on
killer whales in San Juan Island, WA. She studied whale behavior as
part of an ongoing project investigating the effects of boating on the
three resident whale pods (www.whalemuseum.org),
in effort to protect these whales by adding them to the Endangered
Species list.
Currently Mandy works full time at the Veterans Administration
Hospital in Madison. When her work day is done there, she trains
obedience classes at Teachers Pet and also serves as our Behavior
Consult Director. Mandy works with dogs and owners one-on-one through
her consults, setting goals for managing and modifying behavior
issues. She is also a night manager at Club Bow-Wow, Madison’s new
dog daycare and hotel, and has volunteered with WAGS (Wisconsin
Academy of Graduate Service Dogs) and in various humane shelters.
Mandy also maintains her CPDT certification through attending canine
behavior and training seminars and journal clubs. Recently, Mandy was
able to combine her volunteer, work, and educational experience to
help develop a new training program for Therapy Dogs - an area of
training lacking in the Madison area.
Mandy is the proud parent of Symbiosis, an adolescent Border
Collie/Husky mix (pictured with Mandy above). Symbi has helped to
refine Mandy’s skills as a trainer and ethologist, being a challenging
puppy with many behaviors in need of modification! He keeps her on
her toes, and gets to meet many of her clients in consults and on
orientation nights.
When Mandy’s not working with dogs, she enjoys spending time with
family, volunteering at her church, running, rooting for the Twins and
Vikings, and enjoying the outdoors.
